I honestly thought this story had no direction and it seemed more like a rough draft of the authors thoughts and ideas. The characters and storyline really had no depth which made it difficult to have some type of connection. The main character Chocolate was not likeable at all...She just seemed so shallow and stuck on herself...with zero personality. The chapters were very short and sometimes the tense would change up.....abruptly throwing the tone of that particular chapter off.The ending didn't really wow me and I thought it was very predictable or shall I say typical. Maybe if this was published as a complete novel then maybe I would have gotten something out of it because it did have some interesting parts but left A lot to be desired, The only way I would continue the series is if I got it for free like this one. Overall I rate it a 2.5

Chocolate Brown edition by Coco Mixon Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This was a great short story. Despite the fact that Chocolate really had it tough growing up being bullied meeting the brother she never new changed her life. Now what gets me how her BFF that was dating her brother Carlos decided to get down like she did. I've already purchased book II this one I read in a day it's just that great! It has a twist in the end so be sure to get this book.
Miss Mixon did her thing in this book. If you are born and raised in California she takes you down memory lane from crusing on the shaw to hanging out in Long Beach, Lynwood and Compton. Her writing detail is great, she draws you into feeling the characters and takes you through the life of siblings we can all relate to, because we all know somebodies father is rolling stone. Through it all Coco remains true to what life experiences are, through family, love, hate, a womans desire for love and life experience. The Brown family is the family we all have walked pasted on the corner house, or Los Angeles. I love how she allows you to reflect and know each character. The first pages of this book makes you want to see this performed live in a Play. I can't wait for Part 2, The Brown siblings aren't done yet.
This book was a page-turner from the beginning to the end. It was about a man name Charles who was living a double life. He was married and also had a girlfriend that had his child (Carlos).
One day all the secrets came out when he showed up at his son house and his daughter (chocolate) was there and heard his say dad. Yeah you could imagine what happen.
This book had a very good story line and it was well written. The emotions you could feel.
Did the siblings hate each other? 1-click to find out. I recommend everyone to read this book. You will enjoy it. I'm waiting for part 2.

This is my first time reading this author, Coco Mixon. She was introduced on Facebook by Treasure Blue. I said, "ok, let me check her out." I started with this series, Chocolate Brown. Well, I was really impressed with this young woman's storytelling abilities. She kept it interesting, even though it was a short story. I'm really into this Brown family; I'm now reading book two. I never saw anything of this coming so whoever wrote the one star review about it being predictable, didn't read this. Great job Coco. I'm really enjoying these reads, and will be completing this series, and more.
Chocolate is chocolate brown, long flowing hair, slanted eyes, a bad body, and insecure because of the cruel jokes associated with the darkness of her skin. Charmaine, her best friend is the opposite with high yellow skin. But, she keeps reinforcing Choc that she is still beautiful. One day changes things for her when Char invites her to go to her boyfriend's house Carlos & finds out that Char's new man is her brother. Once this has come to light Choc & Carlos are inseparable. As the years go by Choc has become confident & cocky not letting the comments phase her any longer. More secrets are revealed & deeper secrets come to light the closer you get to the end of this read. I'm ready for the next sequel to this page turner!!!!!
I was on pins and needles waiting for this book and after reading it, it was worth the wait..... Poor Chocolate, tease because of her beautiful black skin, she learn how to deal with it and moves forward... One day her world is rock when she finds out her father secret a son, surprisingly she except him and they form a bond like no other.... Both sister and brother enjoying life until tragedy strikes, people brought together to comfort each other only to blindside once again...WOW can't wait to read the sequel..... P.S. tell a my friends about this Author and her book...
I loved reading this book it was definitely a five-star read chocolate went from a caterpillar to a butterfly and then she finally found love or so she thought part one is really good but I know part 2 is going to be off the chain good job
